You will need to start to decide what you want to move to your home, or to the homes of family members. If your family is disbursed throughout the United States, there are a few decisions that you will need to make.
- What furniture and possessions do you want to keep? Mark the furniture and any other items that you would like to keep for yourself. Contact a small load moving company to set up the pickup and delivery of your furniture. Usually, a blanket wrap move truck will be able to help you out. If you are stressed for time, then consider having the furniture and belongings moved on a freight truck. There are solutions for every dilemma. You can even send lots of boxes on pallets in order to save on shipping costs.
Once you have decided on the items that you would like to keep, you can proceed to step two. The question here, is what to I do with the rest of the estate?
- Do you want to donate furniture or belongings? There may be church groups that can use the clothing. They may be able to take unopened food . Look for furniture banks, or resettlement organizations that can help. The resettlement organizations may be able to move the furniture directly from the residence into a new families home. Let them know if you have dishes, pots, pans and towels to donate. Of course, there will be a few things that you can throw away. A nice legacy is knowing that the things that you are not using are going to a needy family or organization. Women’s shelters will often accept used bras for their residents. Many of these women have left their homes with only the clothes on their backs.
- You have now had all of the items picked up and either shipped or donated. You can clean the apartment or home on your own, or you can hire a company to come in and clean for you. The shipping company that you used should be able to make recommendations for a reliable cleaning company. They should also be able to give you the names of a few local realtors.
