Your attic is full and then there’s all the stuff in the storage units.  How on earth can you figure out what to take to your new home.    Just a few simple steps will get the job done.

Go to each storage unit, prepared to divide and conquer.  First, is deciding what to keep and what to let go.

If it’s clothing:

Have you worn it in the last year?    Are you going to wear it in the next 3 months?   Is it still in style?   Do you still love it?

If it’s furniture:

Do you have space for it?   Is it in good shape or does it need repair?  Would a friend or family member love to have it?

Everything else:

Think about why you saved it.  Sentimental value?   A future project.   If it’s been in a storage unit for more than 6 months, it might be time to give it to someone who would use and love it.

Second, once you’ve decided to let the item go, put in in one of these piles:

1-Trash

2-gift to friends/or family

3-sell on ebay, craigslist, offerup or a resale shop

4-donate to a charity

You might earn extra money, and will certainly save a bundle on the storage unit fees.
