Preparing For A Fall Move

Moving in the fall is a great time to take advantage of the cooler weather. Compared to the hot, sticky summer weather, fall can mean a much more comfortable move ahead while avoiding having to move during the winter with dangerous icy road conditions.

PACKING FOR A MOVE

This is a great time to sort through all seasonal items. Transitioning between the seasons gives you the opportunity to discard, put in storage or give away any item(s) that you feel won’t be used or needed right away and items that won’t make it through to the next summer. Whether you pack yourself, or allow Pack-n-Send, Inc., to pack for you, sorting ahead of time can cut down on the cost of what is placed on a truck.

NEW SCHOOL TRANSITION

For some children, it can be challenging when making a transition to a new school, especially after it is already in session. Here are some things you can do to help ease them into a smooth transition:

  • Contact the school well in advance of your move.
Find out who the children’s teachers will be.
Get with those assigned teachers regarding any supplemental material that will allow the children to catch up with the rest of the class.
Prepare your children by having a good family question and answer discussion.

CAUTION! WATCH FOR FALLEN LEAVES

Fall leaves make a beautiful landscape image. However, fall leaves can be dangerous! Wet leaves are slippery and will stick to the bottom of your shoes, making a mess. You don’t want wet leaves causing a disaster! Keep your driveway and walkways swept and cleared of leaves. You will be protecting not only your goods from being damaged, but also protecting your movers from injury.

WHO SHOULD I NOTIFY BEFORE A MOVE?

  • Utility Providers – transfer/termination of utilities
    Post Office
    Bank/Credit Union
    Family
    Friends
    Publications
    Associations

SERVICING A VEHICLE FOR A LONG DISTANCE MOVE
